Getting Read

I remember the first reading I ever got. I was probably around 11 or 12 and my Mom and Dad took me to this spiritualist medium they used to go to whenever they needed some guidance. She would do readings out in the garage of her house. I could smell the strong incense coming from inside the reading room while I kept watching the other people go in and out the reading room. When my parents were done I asked to go in for a reading. The room looked similar to a church since it was full of flowers and saint images and a couple of different altars. My curious eyes wandered around while she was getting her ready to read for me. She gave me some florida water cologne to put on, asked for my full name, wrote it in a piece of white paper and she placed it under a goblet filled with water. She tapped the goblet with her pencil, as she was going into what seemed to be some sort of trance. And then she started giving me one of the most memorable readings I have ever gotten. She spoke to me about things that were going on in my life and in my head and how I was called to do that type of work, as she did. She was using traditional Spanish playing cards that were filled with little keywords and told me I could do the same.

This somehow reinforced my curiosity and desire to learn more about the psychic world and how I could learn. About a year later, my dad got me my first deck of Tarot cards which started a life long journey of study and practice with the cards. When I think back on this reading, and why it was so memorable, I remember my state of curiosity and openness about it. I also compare it to awful readings I have received throughout the years. So in the spirit of that I am sharing with you my top 3 important things to keep in mind before getting read.
  1. Research your reader before making your choice: Back when I was younger the internet was just starting. Social Media was not even a thing and people were still using Encarta to research information (Look it up! LOL). But nowadays there are tons of resources for you to research a reader before you even consider getting a reading from them. Type their name on your favorite search engine, look them up on IG or Facebook or any other Social Media platform and even read client reviews. This way you can find out if the type of reading they offer is the right fit for you.
  2. Be realistic: A Tarot reader, Psychic Reader, Astrologer or any other oracle reader is still a human being. This can’t be stressed enough. Sometimes (many times!) Hollywood does a great disservice by creating an overly romanticized, sometimes scary, of people that perform this type of work. Even though some readers can be very accurate, they are still human beings and can make mistakes.
  3. Remain open and curious: Having this type of attitude will put each other at ease and allow for a better flow during the reading. The worst thing a reader can experience is a client that comes in, sits down, says nothing and does not engage. Sure the reader can still read for you but it definitely becomes uncomfortable and, to be honest, what is the point of getting a reading if you wont have any involvement in it. Kinda like going to a therapist and having them figure out what’s going on without you saying a word. On the other hand going with an open mind will keep the reading interactive and will actually make your reading more helpful, memorable and impactful.
I hope these suggestions help you out when trying to get a reading. If you would like to book a reading with me you can visit my Ig: @visionsbyonareo for more info.
